Summer School on Non-invasive Monitoring of Hormones

The Summer School on Non-invasive Monitoring of Hormones offers international students and scientists the opportunity to gain practical experience in techniques of non-invasive endocrine monitoring including sample workup preparation, performance of enzyme immunoassays, data collection and interpretation. The course is organised by the Leibniz IZW, in close collaboration with Prof. Dr. André Ganswindt (Director of the Mammal Research Institute, University of Pretoria, South Africa) and Dr. Jella Wauters (Wildlife conservation scientist & Wildlife endocrinologist at Pairi Daiza, Belgium). We will cover a variety of areas of applications of hormone analyses in animal biology, including reproductive biology and stress physiology.

During the practical sessions of the summer school, participants will learn how to conduct hormone analyses in the laboratory. They will have the opportunity to practice the preparation and extraction of fecal samples and to conduct enzyme immunoassays. Furthermore, they will learn how to perform high performance liquid chromatography-immunogramms. The focus will be on measuring reproductive hormones as well as stress hormones. Besides, participants will also learn how to evaluate the data.

A detailed programme will be announced in due course. Participants should expect full-day sessions throughout the week, with the course concluding earlier on the final day.

In addition to the hands-on laboratory training, participants will benefit from expert lectures, discussions on current research applications, and opportunities to exchange ideas with fellow researchers from different scientific backgrounds and countries.

The summer school is limited to 12 participants to ensure intensive practical training and close supervision.

Early Bird Registration: €680 (till 10 July 2026)

Regular Registration: €780 (from 11 July 2026 onwards)
